I remember getting to work early that morning, Thanksgiving Day 1990. Early in those days for me meant before 5:00 A.M., a habit I kept several days a week during those two and a half years in Snowmass. But this day was special…. This was the Grand Opening Day for Kemo Sabe!!
Nancy, Gina (our 13-year-old daughter) and I had stayed until late the night before, preparing for the mad rush that we would surely face the next day. But that’s one thing that didn’t go quite as planned: not a person walked into the store. Finally, a guy came in to ask where he could find a swim suit because he had forgotten his and wanted to get in the hotel’s hot tub. Oh, My Gosh, what retail geniuses Nancy and I were because we anticipated this and actually had men’s swimsuits! (I ain’t makin’ this up…) Life was PERFECT… except for the fact that I couldn’t get the puck in the net. The guy walked on me!!!
A few hours later Nancy made our first sale ever – a Ralph Marlin fish tie, for twelve bucks. Kemo Sabe had blasted off from the launch pad!
We stayed open that day ‘til after 9:00 PM, probably three hours later than any other shop in the mall. And it was worth it too – we achieved $284 in sales that day, only $16 less than our goal of $300. The next day, Black Friday and THE busiest shopping day of the year wasn’t quite as good to us…. We pitched a shut-out.

"I am in Las Vegas for a couple days to relax, take in a couple shows, and enjoy some of the sites. Yesterday I was out for a walk and when passing by your store I stopped in when I noticed the hats and boots visible from the front window (not something I have worn in decades, but reminded me of a throwback to my younger days). I came in to browse not buy, but Ariana took the time to answer my questions and more importantly provide me with a wealth of information about the various makers of the boots and what made them high quality items worth owning. On my way out of the store I noticed the belt buckles and once again Ariana provided me with the history of the buckle maker, where they had started their business, where they are based today, as well as a description of the differences between how the various buckles were made.
Right about now you are probably wondering why you are reading this note. Well, while pondering the belt buckle selection I noticed your case of rare collector knifes. Once again, Ariana was extremely knowledgeable about each of the knifes and based on her credibility, terrific personality, and genuine interest in making certain I would be happy with my purchase, I bought a William Henry B06 Shroud and a William Henry B30 Yosemite.
I wanted you to know that you are very lucky to have an employee like Ariana. I am a business owner and know how beneficial it is to have an employee that understands what they are doing, goes out of their way to assist customers, genuinely cares about the customer being happy with their purchase and is a pleasure to deal with.
I know I will enjoy the knifes for years to come, but will also remember the wonderful experience created by Ariana while shopping in your store.
